Luxury hotel brand Rosewood has a picture-perfect new property outside of Salzburg, Austria, one of the best places to travel in July 2024.

Called Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, this hotel set in a restored 15th-century castle gives travelers to Austria a regal place to stay while enjoying the brand’s unstuffy sense of luxury — all set along the Austrian Alps and the beauty of Lake Fuschl.

Travelers to Rosewood Schloss Fuschl will find 98 guest rooms, including 42 suites and six chalets, in and around what used to be a hunting lodge built for prince archbishops of Salzburg all the way back in 1461. Over the years — centuries, really — Schloss Fuschl has played home to many dignitaries, royals and celebrities, and is even where Mozart went to compose music.

Today, the hotel’s accommodations offer large windows with lakeside views, rainfall showers and marble bathrooms, heated floors, art from Austrian artists, an extensive selection of pillows and other high-end amenities like Nespresso machines.

For more space, chalets range from one to three bedrooms, with views of the lake, private outdoor spaces, fireplaces and even private saunas.

Dining at this Rosewood is “a culinary voyage through authentic Salzkammergut cuisine,” the hotel’s website claims, with Schloss Restaurant offering classic Austrian food alongside experimental takes on those classics, like Austrian blood sausage (blunzn) gyoza with sauerkraut, plus a wine collection of over 1,400 varieties.

Additionally, guests can lounge by a fireplace surrounded by hand-painted walls by Austrian painter Marie Hartig at the Schloss Bar or indulge in pastries and sip tea at the Sisi Teesalon, inspired by the hotel’s part in the 1950s “Sissi” film trilogy.

Other places to dine, sip or gather include Vinothek, a wine bar welcoming guests, hikers and everyone in between; Seeterrasse, offering lake views and an “alpine-to-the-sea” menu; and Schloss Fuschl See Club, open to guests and non-guests, with cabana rentals, water views, lots of seafood and live music.

Somewhere as beautiful as Lake Fuschl requires a little self-reflection and self-pampering — and that’s where the Asaya Spa comes in. The spa offers an extensive treatment menu, indoor and outdoor pools, a hair salon and a gym. Plus, guests can partake in multiday health journeys that can help with physical detoxes or improved sleep.

This Rosewood, the second in Austria, also takes full advantage of its Alps locations and Austrian heritage by offering local experiences fitting for the seasons, such as hot air balloon rides over the mountains, guided hikes, boating, private museum tours, access to local craftspeople, winter tobogganing and visits to holiday markets in the winter.

Summer rates range from about $860 to $1,770 per night. For the year, rates can be found for as low as $483 per night. Luckily, Rosewood has a booking calendar showing rates so you can have a ballpark idea of what you might spend on a stay.

With the hotel’s “opening celebration offer,” guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast, early check-in and late checkout, plus hotel credits worth upward of $100 for rooms and more than $200 for suites by booking direct.

And, we’ll expect to see Rosewood Schloss Fuschl join programs like American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts in the coming months, allowing guests to take advantage of elitelike perks like potential room upgrades and hotel credits, among others.
