Sample flights
One of the great things about this deal is that you can fly nearly anywhere in the U.S. — there are even some routes to Hawaii. While there aren’t as many options on the West Coast, you can still fly to cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle.
Here are some highlights:
- Southwest: Bradley International Airport (BDL) to Nashville International Airport (BNA), starting at $87.
- Avelo: Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN) to Midway International Airport (MDW), starting at $117.
- Delta: MDW to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), starting at $138.
- JetBlue: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), starting at $138.
- American: Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) to DFW, starting at $138.

- United: Denver International Airport (DEN) to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), starting at $169.
We recommend using Google Flights to determine the best dates and then booking your flights directly on the airline’s website; airlines are more reliable in the event your flight is delayed, canceled or has a booking change.
For a Feb. 1 trip to Dallas, Google Flights shows an 8:40 p.m. JetBlue flight departing from JFK as the one with the lowest fare. Delta and American also offer slightly more expensive flights to Dallas, both priced at $146.
If you decide to return to New York a week later, this 6:35 a.m. JetBlue flight from Dallas keeps the fare the same. Even though this return flight is early, the other available options make the round-trip fare increase to $217.
All the fares featured in this set of discounts are for basic economy, which can be restrictive. For example, JetBlue’s Blue Basic option does not let passengers bring carry-ons and only offers seat selection with an additional fee. Despite the restrictions that come with basic economy, it can be a good option for shorter flights (a flight from New York to Dallas is anywhere between three and four hours).
Seats for a JetBlue round-trip flight between New York and Dallas can cost anywhere from $10 to $79; the more expensive seats offer more legroom and early access to overhead bin space.

Bottom line
With multiple airlines offering cheap domestic flights at the end of the year, now couldn’t be a better time to plan a short trip to visit family or explore a new city.
Even though all of these discounts are for basic economy, which comes with some limitations, it can be a really convenient option for many of the shorter, domestic flights in this deal.
